I hate, hate, HATE those plastic bobbin boxes! Why? Because I always drop them or knock them off the table, and then my bobbins scurry off to the far reaches of my sewing space, unwinding themselves as they go.

My solution was to take a piece of garden hose that was 5/8 inch (16 millimeters) in diameter and split it lengthwise all the way down. The bobbins then snap right into the hose and stay very secure until I’m ready to use them, even if I drop it on the floor. The sides of the bobbins are always facing out, so I can easily tell what color of thread is on them. An added bonus is that the hose has a slight curve to it, which keeps it from rolling off the table.

If you decide to make your own, I hope you like it as much as I do! And if you’re looking for a way to store spools of thread, check out the tutorial for my DIY Sewing Thread Rack!

Glad you liked it! Thanks for stopping by 😊
OMG… i love love love to see people cycle up ideas. I am a true believer that EVERYTHING trash can be used to recycle… something… with the right idea.. That is how people become Millionaires and Billionaires… by introducing a simple idea to the world.
Sadly I have many ideas for things but have not … well you know.
Even if it is a craft idea to share it helps to save the environment from trash.
Too bad we can’t come up with an idea to recreate human trash….
OR CAN WE ???
I love upcycling because not only does it turn discarded items into something useful, it causes me to look at things in a whole new way! It’s always nice to meet a fellow upcycler. 🙂
Thanks for both cotton reel and spool holder ideas. Its great now gotta find a hardware store that sells such wire. Can’t wait to try this out.
I’m glad you liked them! I’ve been so happy with mine 🙂
