Hey everyone, I am happy to announce that I am officially a contributor to We Like Sewing Magazine! And I have some other exciting news: My first article has made it onto the cover of the January issue!

There’s my leather bag, upcycled from a leather coat! It has fringe, a tassel, a cute detail on the strap, and the coat’s original snaps are used as the closure. You can click through to We Like Sewing to read my article, and learn some tips for upcycling a leather coat of your own!

Secondhand leather coats are great sources of inexpensive yet high-quality leather, and upcycling them into hangbags is a great way to work around damaged areas of the coat and end up with a piece that’s 100% your own style. Since each coat is different, I included a lot of hints for working with zippers, belts, pockets, and other elements that you may encounter with your chosen coat.

While you’re at it, you can take a look at the rest of the January issue, or see issues from the previous months.

I have a few more magazine articles in the works that I’m really excited about, too, but I’ll still be posting here on my blog every chance I get! Thank you all for sticking with me and keeping up with my wacky adventures. I love writing tutorials and offering ideas and inspiration for my subscribers. In fact, I think I’ll let you all choose what my next post is about!

Cast your vote, enjoy the leather bag tutorial, and I’ll see you back here soon!

Until then,

Jessie
